A
natural beauty stands unkempt and shabby, a few kilometres from the old railway
town of Kafanchan, Jema’a local government of Kaduna State. It is unable to
attract potential visitors that would have made it a world class tourist
attraction and hence bring in the much needed revenue for the community.
Matsirga
Waterfalls takes its source from springs on the Kagoro hills cascading from
four different natural funnels off the sheer rock cliff from about 25 metres to
form a large pool at the bottom. The fall with its crystal clear natural water gushes
down the rock from a height of about 30 metres as it makes a splashing noise into
a gorge that has been supported by beautiful rocks. The fresh cool breeze everywhere
near the fall is worth coming in contact with especially for any tourist brave
enough to visit this magical waterfall.
At
the point of impact with the river, the cascading showers of the fall create a
rainbow-like mist which appears and disappears mysteriously. The
river formed by Matsirga Waterfalls increases with the rainy season overflowing
its banks. A natural rock shelter at the river bank forms a cover and resting
place for picnicking. Like a half umbrella, it provides shade for tourists
amidst the wondrous continuous waterfall.
Although
it is sad to note that this natural splendour has lost its finesse as tourists don’t
dare look at it to behold its charm, I am a firm believer that if the
government fully supports the effort being put in place by “Madikiya Heritage
Resort” in turning this natural wonder into a spectacular haven, it will become
a huge source of revenue for the State as well as a massive employer of labour
for its youths.
This
partnership will bring about peace and tranquillity to the community especially
as the falls’ proximity to the Kagoro Hills and Nok Museum will provide an
added advantage to tourists visiting the area.
Nice place. Investors should do some thing about it. Nigeria is truly blessed
