It’s
about that time of the year again and everyone is talking about it and making
plans to attend the biggest street party in Africa. This epoch making event is
scheduled for the 26th and 27th of December, it is expected that this years’
live audience will outgrow that of 2012.
The
Cross River State government recently unveiled the theme for the 2013 Calabar
Festival at the main bowl of the Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar. The annual
carnival is regarded as the second biggest brand in Africa after Nollywood with
over 50 million spectators globally.
The
organisers are planning to make this years’ carnival the most glamorous since
its launch 12 years ago. The State Governor, Liyel Imoke gave the assurance at
the unveiling, which is themed “AIN’T NO STOPPING US”.
The
Calabar Carnival has grown to be a brand identified internationally and copied
locally following its rich content. The theme is expected to be interpreted by
five participating bands, The Seagull, Master Blasta, Freedom Band, Passion 4
and Bayside.
The
Governor spurred the band members to reflect on Cross River States’ culture,
history, creativity and above all measures geared towards promoting the tourism
industry in their quest for the interpretation of the theme.
I would advise you start making your hotel reservations now if you intend to attend the Carnival, while bearing in mind that there are other activities lined up for the 30 days holiday in Calabar.
